Chapter Hospital Liaison

Ensuring quality medical care for our members is the most critical objective of our organization and always proves to be the most challenging. That is the primary reason why Gateway has a voluntary Chapter Hospital Committee comprised of members who advocate for quality healthcare for veterans with spinal cord injury or disease (SCI/D). Currently, Gateway has a Chapter Hospital Liaison located in the St. Louis area and is in search for a Chapter Hospital Liaison for the Kansas City area. An ongoing task for the Chapter Hospital Committee is to meet with the SCI/D Chief in St. Louis, and the Medical Center staff and physicians from the VA Medical Centers throughout the state. In addition to meeting with staff, the committee members meet with inpatients and members who may have complaints or issues that are not being addressed regarding their medical care.

Currently, Gateway’s Chapter Hospital Liaisons are as follows:

Michael “Scott” Richards (Chairman of Chapter Hospital Committee) - St. Louis, MO
Scott is our Chapter CHLO for the Jefferson Barracks VAMC. We are extremely fortunate to have Scott assisting the Chapter and our members by frequently visiting the Jefferson Barracks SCI unit to ensure patients are receiving adequate healthcare. Scott meets monthly with the St. Louis VAMC Directors, Stan Brown, and our National Service Officers to discuss any medical care issues, and reports pertinent information back to the Chapter Board of Directors.

Stanley Brown - St. Louis, MO
Stan is our Chapter Hospital Liaison for the 6-bed acute care satellite unit at John Cochran, as well as CHLO to the John Cochran VA Hospital. Stan meets monthly with the St. Louis VAMC Directors and our National Service Officers to discuss any medical care issues, and reports pertinent information back to the Chapter Board of Directors at their monthly Board meetings.

Kansas City, MO
The Chapter is currently looking for a member who is interested in serving as a Chapter Hospital Liaison Officer for our veterans in the western part of the state.
